The animal of the day is the Darter aka the Snakebird. (Did you know: Their nickname, snakebird, comes from their very long slender neck which has a very snake like appearance while they are swimming underwater!
Unlike other water birds, snakebirds swim with most of their body underwater, not floating atop the water like ducks or swans.
Since their feathers get completely soaked when they swim, you can often see snakebirds on the shore drying their feathers before they fly off!
