Animal of the day – 7/31/2010 – The African Bullfrog

African Bullfrog

The animal of the day is the African Bullfrog. (Did you know: These  frogs will eat anything that fits into their mouths, and considering their size, that’s alot of things. They will eat your baby. These are a super invasive species that have displaced many native frogs in America and Australia [they’re originally from Africa]. They are also one of the few amphibians that take care of their young, the males will guard the nest after the females lay their eggs!)

Note: I’ve just been informed by a reader that it’s the American Bullfrog that is the invasive one! Sorry for my inaccuracy!

  1. I know this is old, but FYI these are not an invasive species. They are on the decline in Africa, the only place in the world where they are found in the wild. I believe you may be thinking of the Cane Toad, the American Bullfrog, or possibly the African clawed frog.

    • You’re totally correct! It’s the American Bullfrog that has been exported and has become an invasive species in many parts of the world! I’ll update the post! Thanks for letting me know!
