The animal of the day is Fire Coral. (Did you know: Yup, even though it doesn’t seem like it, corals are alive! They’re in the same family as jellyfish! They look like any normal ole structure during the day, but just wait!
At night, their polyps pop out and start feeding! And boy are they vicious feeders! They eat anything from plankton to small fish by using their tentacles, which, like jellyfish have nematocytes that immobilize their prey!
Fire Corals in particular can cause a horrid rash if it comes into contact with human skin. One of my best friends ran into these in Puerto Rico and had discolored skin for ages afterward!
It’s also during night time that they expand their territory, and if need be, battle with other corals for more space!
