Animal of the day – 11/15/2010 – The Manticore

The Manticore

The animal of the day is the Manticore. (Did you know: The Manticore is one of the Wizarding world’s most dangerous creatures. It is a sentient beast, capable of intelligent speech, but has not been classified as a being  due to its violent tendencies. A Manticore has a human-like head, a lion’s body, and a scorpion’s tail with a stinger. A Manticore’s skin repels all known charms, so is effectively hard to subdue a Manticore with magic.

The Manticore originated in Greece, and is as rare as the Chimaera. The sting of the Manticore causes instant death, and it is reputed to croon softly to its victims as it devours them.

Rubeus Hagrid somehow managed to acquire Manticores, and got them to breed with Fire crabs, creating the hybrid Blast-Ended Skrewts.
