Animal of the day – 12/21/2010 – The Manta Ray

Manta Ray Leaping

The animal of the day is the Manta Ray. (Did you know: Manta Rays live in every ocean in the world except for the Arctic Ocean!

Like many other huge ocean animals [whale sharks, blue whales] Manta Rays actually feed on very small things like plankton, fish larvae and tiny shrimp that they filter through their toothless mouths!

Manta Rays are rarely kept in captivity due to their large size! However, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA has one that requires a 6.2 million gallon water tank [pictured above].
