Giant Coconut Crab

The animal of the day is the Giant Coconut Crab. (Did you know: This crab has been known to sneak into campsites and steal shiny objects like pots and silverwear! Hence it’s knick name, the Robber Crab!

Coconut crab are the largest living land based Atrhopod [Those big ass snow crabs in Alaska are bigger, but they are water based]. They are so big, scientists think they are the limit of how big an animal with an exoskeleton can grow on land.

Just remember, if you get pinched by a coconut crab, it’s unlikely to let you go…Unless…

It may be interesting to know that in such a dilemma a gentle titillation of the under soft parts of the body with any light material will cause the crab to lose its hold’

  1. They are such a fun color. Video was great- oh young David. Although, watching him handle a huge crab made me squirmish, not gonna lie.
