Animal of the day – 2/14/2011 – The Albatross

Albatross Pair & Chick

The animal of the day is the Albatross. (Did you know: Happy Valentines! In celebration of the day, today’s animal is one who mates for life!

Albatrosses are also the largest bird that can fly (ostriches, and some other extinct land birds are bigger, but they can’t fly!) They spend most of their lives flying out at sea, and only come back to land to mate and rear their chick! They only lay one egg at a time, and mum and dad take turns feeding them!
