Animal of the day – 3/30/2011 – The Barn Owl

The animal of the day is the Barn Owl. (Did you know: These guys are friends of farmers! It get’s it’s name because originally, farmers would put specific holes in their barns to allow Barn Owls to roost there. Why you ask? Because Barn owls are GREAT at keeping rodent populations in control.


They will eat at least 1 rodent every night, and a breeding pair will typically eat more than 1,000 rodents in a year!

Their babies look like aliens though…

I can't wait for this thing to grow some feathers.
