Animal of the day – 4/22/2011 – The Kookaburra

Pair of Kookaburras

The animal of the day is the Kookaburra. (Did you know: These large members of the kingfisher family are only found in Australia and New Guinea!

They are best known for their call which sounds like echoing human laughter!

And they kinda look like a toy!

I love this. My son was visiting today and we were watching the beautiful couple we have on our property. He went on to tell me that the Kookaburra live in a territoral are of around 400mts. Our home is on 5 ac and the couple we have have as far as i know been here with us for the last 12 yrs. They sit in the same trees regularly. This picture of the baby is just lovely.
