The animal of the day is the Horned Toad. (Did you know: These guys aren’t toads at all! They’re actually lizards!
AND[wait for it] they squirt blood out of their eyes to defend themselves from attackers! Blood out of their eyes? Yes. Nuff said.
The ominous squirting blood emanates from ducts in the corners of their eyes and can travel a distance of up to three feet (one meter). It’s meant to confuse would-be predators, but also contains a chemical that is noxious to dogs, wolves, and coyotes.
My boss has informed me that when you rub their bellies, they enter a state of pure bliss!
