Animal of the day – 7/27/2012 – The Maclaud’s Horseshoe Bat

The Maclaud’s Horseshoe Bat

The animal of the day is the Maclaud’s Horseshoe Bat. (Did you know: Dude, what is up with your face?! The Maclaud’s Horseshoe Bat is just one type of horseshoe bat and they all have some sort of crazy protuberance coming out of their nose.

Dude, where are your eyes? And mouth!?

Unlike most bats, their hind limbs aren’t well developed, so they can’t walk on all fours. Also, like all bats, they have great qualities (They eat lots of insects and their guano is an awesome fertilizer) and bad qualities (they carry lots of diseases and in 2005, were found to be carrying a SARS-like virus that could infect humans!).
