I’m on the fence about the pelagic sting-ray since it was something like that ray who killed the Crocodile Hunter…but time heals all wounds. Except wounds from a sting-ray into your heart πŸ™‚

I suggest something that needs to be brought to people’s attention, something endangered that’s not well known. The African wild donkey is by my opinion, quite an impressive choice. The Somali subspecies has quite an interesting set or markings; white underbelly, silvery pelt in the summer, iron-grey pelt in the winter, and a black-tipped erect mane. But the interesting thing is it’s thoroughly striped legs. But then, there’s interesting behavior. Wandering the Sahara desert in constant search of food and water, it may stop at a water source, fulfill it’s needs, and then return to the seemingly lifeless desert without known reason. This species of equine doesn’t run necessarily fast, so when confronted by something like a pride of lions or clan of hyenas, this donkey fights them off. It will also chase other animals away for food and water sources, and attacked caravans crossing the deserts in ancient times. According to one book, they caravans even feared these wild beasts. Unfortunately, people are unlawfully bringing their cattle to watering holes of reserves, and when the donkeys chase the cattle off, they get shot. They are also poached with the belief that their meat has healing abilities. Africa doesn’t exactly have the money to pay for good watch over the reserves, and not many people know about this admirable creature, so not much is given or done to assist them. Hopefully, if more people know, more will be done, and thus why I highly suggest this animal for your ‘animal of the day.’ Some other creature with a similar problem of endangerment and unknown to the general public, that needs to be brought to the world’s attention.
