Pilot Whale
The animal of the day is the Pilot Whale. (Did you know: Their name comes from fishermen observing that the largest male would always ‘pilot’ the pack by leading the pod from a fair distance ahead.
I think these guys look eerily similiar to those aliens from the ALIENS movies.
But that’s just me…
Mass beaching of Pilot Whales
Unfortunately, Pilot whales are the whales that beach themselves the most. Scientists have no clue whey they do this, since they can echolocate just as good as bottlenose dolphins.
